-How PMSA was formed-
Softball in Portland began in 1935 by Charlie Walker, a Parks & Recreation employee at Peninsula Park Community Center. It started out as a Summer Playground Program that became popular very quickly. By 1940 Charlie would start the season with a Jamboree at the small softball field at Peninsula Park, which drew 2 to 3,000 players and spectators to the neighborhood park.
With the Popularity of the sport growing a Softball Board was formed to not only help Charlie, but to also promote the game of Softball.
In 1949 the Portland Metro Softball Association (PMSA) was established and became a member of the Amateur Softball Association, known as ASA, the recognized Governing Body of Softball by the United States Olympic Committee.
In 2014 ASA rebranded to USA Softball with each state/metro having their own state/city recognized. We are USA Softball of Portland
When you play in Portland Metro Softball Association/USA Softball of Portland League or Tournaments, you are part of USA Softball!
